Projects

Open Room Closet:
Ali and I love our house on Oberlin and could not think of a better place to live in our first years of marriage. But the house has one problem, it has no closets that can hang clothing in. So I decided to change that up for a cheap penny! What I did was, screw two eye bolts into a stud. Then I took two 1' dowels and drilled 2 holes in each end. I then tied a knot to the two  eye bolts and strung it through the holes of the dowels. I ties an knot in the rope after each dowel. Then hung up the clothing and there you go!

Kitchen Shelf:

Ali had a great idea on how to make the most of our small kitchen. Make a shelf that could store our dry goods and add hooks to spice it up. It turned out great at a very low cost.

Shopping List:
5 Hooks, Bronze
2 Chair Braces, Bronze
1 1x6 Yellow Pine Board, 6'
2 Double Keyhole Fasteners
1 Bottle of Wood Glue (Titebond III, best wood glue ever)
4 Drywall Screws
1 Can of White Paint

Step One:
The first thing I did was cut two 2' 6" sections from the board. You can use a circular saw or miter saw for these two cuts.

Step Two:
I then glued the long edge of board #1 to the surface of  board #2. I dropped the #1 down 1" on #2 to give it the T look. You are going to want to clamp these in place to make sure that you get them flush.

Step Three:
After the glue had dried I sanded the edges and painted the project white.

Step Four:
When the paint dried I screwed in the Chair Braces and hooks.

Step Five:
Last of all I put the Double Keyhole Fasteners on the back and measured out where the drywall screws went on the wall.

Just add some cool mugs, flower and sugar and there you go!

Our Bed:

Finished product
For my wedding present to Ali I decided to make her our bed! Its was a farm house style and took me about two weekends to make. Before this project I had not done any wood working but took it on. Its just about having the right tools and a good set of plans. We absolutely love it and love it even more that it was homemade.

Here are some of the pictures of me making the bed! If your interested in taking this project on, check out http://ana-white.com. I started with the farm house plans and made some of my own adjustments. Over all the cost was low and its a good feeling to be in a bed that you have made!
